How does Chat Lightning speed up ChatGPT?
It intercepts ChatGPT's conversation API response and renders only the last N messages (default 20) instead of the whole history. Your full conversation stays in ChatGPT's database untouched — Chat Lightning only changes how many messages are drawn on screen, so a 500-message chat opens instantly instead of freezing.
Are my older messages deleted?
No. Nothing is deleted. Trimming is rendering-only. Click "Load older messages" at the top of the chat to bring back more, or reload the page to see everything. Your messages always remain safe in ChatGPT itself.
Does Chat Lightning collect any data?
No. The extension makes zero network requests of its own. All settings and prompt history are stored locally via chrome.storage.local. There is no account, no backend, no telemetry, and no analytics inside the extension.

Yes. Click the paperclip near the composer and pick a PDF, JS, CSS, HTML, or TXT file. The text is extracted locally — PDF parsing uses a bundled copy of pdf.js, so nothing is uploaded anywhere — and inserted into your prompt wrapped in fences for clarity.
